Three tours. The “Eco-Tour of the Severn River” is a 90-minute exploration of this Chesapeake Bay tributary, observing the beauty of her waters, the wonders of her wetlands and learning of the resilience of the species that live there (maximum 48). “Pirates of the Chesapeake Tour” teaches students about piracy through an onshore discovery period before boarding the boat for games, role-playing and history lessons. One of the oldest surviving houses in Annapolis (1715), Shiplap House was originally built as the home and inn of sawyer Edward Smith. It is named for the random-width flush siding (called shiplap) on the rear facade. Merchant Nathan Hammond lived and worked here from 1759 until 1777. The building now serves as administrative offices for the Historic Annapolis Foundation.

Two tours. “Colonial Plantation Life” – Students will experience a day in the life of a Colonial child through numerous hands-on activities and tours of Sotterley’s Manor House, outbuildings and garden. Students will make a special Colonial craft to remind them of the day. “Slavery to Freedom” – This program offers a unique, hands-on experience of 19th-century plantation life as seen through the eyes of a slave. Students will take part in an archaeology dig, tour the Manor House, and original slave cabin and various outbuildings, and work with primary historic documents. This early 19th-century dockside building is similar to the commercial warehouses that lined the Colonial waterfront. Annapolis merchants, George and John Barber, used it as a warehouse for their packet (water shuttle) service.
